Fairview Park Primary School

Fairview Park Primary School Logo

Our school emblem is an Australian native plant called the "Yakka"(Xanthorrhoea species). Specimens are still found dotted throughout the Fairview Park area. Kauna people (traditional owners of the area) used to use the plant's gum to make medicine. They also got food from the centre of the plant which tasted like an almond. The seed structure was used to make spears. The yakka plants are very resistant to bush fire and are very slow growing.

The school's Newsletter also bears this plant's picture and name.
